Deadpool 3 loses its May release date as the strike continues to affect the 2024 theatrical schedule
We’re hearing disappointing news concerning 20th Century Studios‘ Deadpool 3 release. According to Deadline, the highly-anticipated threequel starring Ryan Renolds and Hugh Jackman will lose its May release date because of complications related to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. Deadline says that even if the strike ends in the next few weeks, it’s almost impossible for the superhero sequel to keep its original release date. In its current state, the movie is half-finished. In other words, there’s lots more work to do on the film before it can hit its target of May 3, 2024. While the Deadpool 3 delay is a bummer, it’s understandable, given the circumstances.
According to sources, there’s a chance Captain America: Brave New World could move to an earlier date, seeing as it’s finished production. Additionally, if Deadpool 3 can’t open by July 26, 2024, it could move to November, a sweet spot for MCU success.
“Our movie is raw, audacious, very much R-rated and we went to great lengths to not shoot it on sound stages with digital environments,” Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy told Deadline at the Toronto International Film Festival. “We wanted something that felt, grounded, real…You put Hugh Jackman in his most iconic character alongside Ryan Reynolds in his most iconic character; it’s more of a descendant of Midnight Run, and 48 Hours, and Planes, Trains and Automobiles more than it’s a descendant of Airplane.”
The upcoming Deadpool sequel will see the return of Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Rob Delaney as Peter. Deadpool 3 will also star Emma Corrin, who is expected to play the villain, and Matthew Macfadyen in an undisclosed role. The film also finds Jennifer Garner returning as Elektra for a “cameo-like” appearance. In addition to Garner’s Elektra, rumors say Ben Affleck was spotted on the Deadpool 3 set, leading fans to believe he’ll cameo alongside Garner as Daredevil. That said, Affleck’s participation is not confirmed.
What do you think about Deadpool 3 getting delayed? It’s probably for the best. Rushing the project out the door won’t do anyone any favors, and we all want this movie to be at its best. If we must wait a little longer for the bromance of the century to unfold on the silver screen, take all the time you need.
