Dune: You’ll want this Lego Ornithopter set for one particular Minifigure
You may not have expected that Denis Villeneuve’s Dune would cross over to the world of Lego, but here we are. The company has announced the Lego Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter set, which lovingly recreates the iconic flying vehicle in all its glory, but it’s the Minifigures you’ll really want; one in particular.
Included with the Lego Ornithopter set are eight Dune Minifigures, including Paul Atreides, Lady Jessica, Gurney Halleck, Chani, Leto Atreides, Liet Kynes, Duncan Idaho, and Baron Harkonnen, who is just glorious in his ultra-long robe. Seriously, check him out!
Just amazing. I love it. The Ornithopter set consists of 1,369 pieces and features features fold-out, flappable wings, deployable landing gear and an opening cockpit. You can check out a few images below.
Lego design master Michael Psiaki said, “Like fans across the world, we were fully enraptured by the epic Dune when it released – so our return to Arakkis in Dune: Part Two was the perfect opportunity to bring this iconic craft to life in Lego brick form. Builders can now recreate this impressive ship with amazing detail, whether to proudly display or recreate their favourite scenes from the epic Dune saga at home.” With the wings folded out, the Ornithopter measures over 9 in. (23 cm) high, 22 in. (57 cm) long, and 31 in. (79 cm) wide.
It’s possible that Dune: Part Two will not be the end of the saga as Denis Villeneuve has teased a third movie based on Dune Messiah. “If I succeed in making a trilogy, that would be the dream,” Villeneuve said. “Dune Messiah was written in reaction to the fact that people perceived Paul Atreides as a hero…Which is not what he wanted to do. My adaptation [of Dune] is closer to his idea that it’s actually a warning.“
Dune: Part Two will “explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.” The film was supposed to hit theaters later this year, but the release has been pushed back to March 15, 2024.
The Lego Dune set is available for pre-order and will ship on February 1, 2024, but it will cost you $164.99.
