Blue Beetle star Xolo Maridueña says the movie is “sacred”

Blue Beetle came out late in the summer as the actors’ strike took place. While the film’s star, Xolo Maridueña, has been able to have some of his pre-strike comments about the film come out during the promotional period, the Cobra Kai star was not able to do any press for the DC movie or talk about it in any way on any venue. However, earlier in the summer, when the hype for the new DCU movie started to build, Maridueña and the film’s director, Angel Manuel Soto, were able to share just how personal and important this movie was for them as it was a superhero story with a prominent Latin representation that made them very proud and emotional.

Now that the strike has subsided, Maridueña has taken to his social media to finally speak in depth about Blue Beetle. According to Deadline, Maridueña shared a series of behind-the-scenes pictures on his Instagram. His post read, “Blue Beetle is sacred to me, from the family you see on screen to the ones I made off, this movie has tore me down and built me back up in ways I’ll never be able to articulate. To celebrate this moment behind closed doors has been one of the most formative moments of my life but it helped me realize, there is no dollar sign, no tweet, no headline, that can quantify the feeling inside a child who sees their ancestry is heroic.”

His post would continue to say, “This is for all of our inner child. Thank you for everyone who supported and showed out, the response has been overwhelmingly positive and there isn’t a week that passes by without thinking of the Blue Beetle Battalion!! Here are a few (of im sure many) photos to come of this movie!! You’re all superhero’s cabrones! Ashe.”

Blue Beetle would open with the second-worst debut for a DC film at $25.4 million. The comic book-based movie would be among the other summer releases that failed to make a splash. The cast of Blue Beetle not being able to make the rounds would perhaps play into the film’s underwhelming box office performance. However, this year brought on an important shift in perception of the genre which has people wondering if superhero fatigue has finally set in.
