Nuremberg: Russell Crowe, Rami Malek, and Michael Shannon board James Vanderbilt’s historical drama
Scream and Ready or Not producer James Vanderbilt is teaming up with Russell Crowe (Gladiator, The Pope’s Exorcist), Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody, Mr. Robot), and Michael Shannon (Midnight Special, Take Shelter) for Nuremberg, a historical drama set in post-war Germany. Arranged by Bluestone Entertainment and Walden Media, the project is inspired by Jack El Hai’s book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist. Vanderbilt directs from a script he wrote, with production starting in February in Hungary.
According to Deadline, Nuremberg “focuses on the American psychiatrist Douglas Kelley (Malek), who is tasked with determining whether Nazi prisoners are fit to stand trial for their war crimes, and finds himself in a complex battle of wits with Hermann Göring (Crowe), Hitler’s right-hand man.” Shannon plays Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson, the chief prosecutor of the Nuremberg trials.
“What an absolute honor it is to be working with such a tremendously talented group of actors,” said Vanderbilt. “Our partners at Bluestone and Walden have been incredibly supportive, and I cannot wait to bring this amazing true story to the screen.”
“Walden is thrilled to help bring James Vanderbilt’s vision to the screen in the courageous effort to pursue justice in the aftermath of World War II,” added the book publisher’s President of Production, Ben Tappan. “This astounding moment in history, as brought to life with our extraordinary cast, is a riveting story that is sure to intrigue and resonate with audiences today.”
After appearing in the Marvel Studios sequel Thor: Love and Thunder, Russell Crowe is returning to comic book landscape for a mysterious role in Sony’s Kraven the Hunter, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Sergei Kravinoff. You can also catch Crowe in William Eubank’s Land of Bad, an action thriller about a rookie Field Air Support Controller on a mission in the Philippines.
Upon completing his role in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Malek is ready to play Charles Heller in James Hawes’ Amateur. The action thriller revolves around a CIA cryptographer who manages to blackmail his agency into letting him go after a terrorist group kills his wife.
Finally, Michael Shannon recently completed work on Courtney J. Camerota’s Dead Guy, featuring Judy Greer and Luiz Guzman. The story of Dead Guy focuses on what happens when an abrasive older man dies in the apartment of a neighbor, and an absurd game of hot potato begins with the decaying body.
What do you think about the cast of Nuremberg so far? Russell Crowe, Rami Malek, and Michael Shannon could form a deadly trifecta of talent to tell this emotionally dark tale. I’m looking forward to it. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
