Jeff Fahey teases an upcoming project reuniting him with Robert Rodriguez and hopes to start the sequel to Alita: Battle Angel

Alita: Battle Angel was an ambitious live-action adaptation of an anime, but the movie had some big names behind it with Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron. The movie had an underwhelming reception and with the Disney acquirement of Fox, it made the path to a sequel more difficult. The film’s director, Rodriguez, insists that he and Cameron have always been discussing a follow-up. “He outlined, very thoroughly, a second and a third film, so there’s already material there. So yeah, we’re hoping that that will happen. But nothing more definitive than that,” Rodriguez says. However, he has also stated, “We haven’t set it for sure yet, but we’re definitely hoping to and talking about it a lot. They’re slammed with all the Avatar stuff, but they’ve definitely been engaging in it.“

A frequent collaborator of Rodriguez, actor Jeff Fahey, recently spoke with ScreenRant while promoting his new project, Due Justice. Fahey hopes that he will be able to reprise his role in an Alita sequel soon, although he has also teased that he will be working with Rodriguez on another upcoming project, which, according to ScreenRant, will be in the summer of 2024. Fahey explained, “I like working with Robert Rodriguez. I think we’ve worked together now seven times. And we’ll be working together again, hopefully in the summer. Fingers crossed that we’re going into Alita: Battle Angel 2.”

While plans are still very up in the air, back in 2020, Rodriguez told Forbes that there could be a possibility that a sequel to Alita could find itself as a Disney+ original. He stated,  “I think anything is possible. Disney bought Fox, and they have Disney Plus, so that is worth the conversation. I know other people would love to see another, and I would love to do another one. As far as where it would go or how it would be made, I think streaming has opened up many opportunities such as sequels. It’s already a pre-sold concept, it’s already got a built-in audience that wants to see it, and then it’s delivered to them in a way that’s the easiest for them to consume.”
