Naomi Scott is set to turn her charming smile creepy in the sequel to Smile
Naomi Scott, who memorably played Princess Jasmine in Disney’s big-budget Aladdin remake, is set to star in Paramount’s highly anticipated horror sequel, Smile 2. The film, which already had an October 18, 2024 release date, has been on the fast track ever since the first film scored an amazing $217 million at the global box office. Not bad for a movie that was originally planned as a direct-to-streaming film.
According to Deadline, Scott’s role and the premise of the film are being kept under wraps. Apparently the role was a hot one for a lot of up-and-coming young actors, with Scott nailing the part thanks to her status as a rising star. While she’s never really gotten the right breakout role yet (the Charlie’s Angels reboot she was in flopped), Scott seems primed to make it to the next level, and a juicy part in a horror franchise might be just the ticket.
The original film centered around a young psychiatrist, played by Sosie Bacon, who was haunted by a malevolent spirit that made its victims die with a grim, permanent smile. The film’s imagery made it a cult hit, and the director, Parker Finn, is back to both write and direct.
