Killer Klowns from Outer Space sequel could be an eight episode mini-series
Thirty-five years down the line from the release of the 1988 cult classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space (watch it HERE), fans of the film have access to a whole lot of tie-in merchandise, have made their way through Killer Klowns-themed mazes at Halloween Horror Nights events, and have a video game to look forward to… but we still haven’t seen the sequel the film’s creators have been anxious to make for decades. Now, speaking with SFX magazine, Killer Klowns from Outer Space director Stephen Chiodo has revealed that he’s hoping to bring the sequel idea to life as an eight episode mini-series!
Chiodo told SFX (with thanks to Coming Soon for sharing the text), “My goal is to do an eight-part miniseries for streamers. We’ve got a great concept that continues the story of our main characters. We’ll follow a new group of teenagers who come upon the clowns and meet a drunk living in his van – it’s Mike Tobacco. There’s a big invasion, and we end up on the clown planet. We have lots of great ideas about where this universe goes. You haven’t even seen the clown animals on the clown planet yet. There’s a whole world of things that we have in mind!“
In a world where the Karate Kid films got a streaming series continuation, a streaming mini-series Killer Klowns follow-up sounds like a great idea.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space was directed by Stephen Chiodo from a screenplay he wrote with his brother Charles Chiodo. Stephen and Charles also produced the film with their other brother, Edward Chiodo. It has the following synopsis: When teenagers Mike and Debbie see a comet crash outside their sleepy small town, they investigate and discover a pack of murderous aliens who look very much like circus clowns. They try to warn the local authorities, but everyone assumes their story is a prank. Meanwhile, the clowns set about harvesting and eating as many people as they can. It’s not until they kidnap Debbie that Mike decides it’s up to him to stop the clowns’ bloody rampage.
Grant Cramer, Suzanne Snyder, John Allen Nelson, Royal Dano, John Vernon, Michael S. Siegel, Peter Licassi, and Christopher Titus star.
