Civil War: The actual runtime for Alex Garland’s next film has been revealed
Praise the bladder gods! Alex Garland’s (Men, Devs, Ex Machina, Annihilation) Civil War will be shorter than previously rumored. As it turns out, IMDB posted an incorrect runtime for the upcoming (and all too timely) film. So, that rumor about Garland’s Civil War being 3 hours and 15 minutes long? False. The correct runtime is 109 minutes, A24 confirms. If you still have the receipt for the adult diapers you bought in anticipation of the film, now’s your chance to get your money back.
Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Nick Offerman, Karl Glusman, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonica T. Gibbs, Jess Matney, and Jesse Plemons star as primary cast members in Garland’s latest epic, Civil War, about a nation divided and collapsing in on itself. Today, A24 debuted a Civil War trailer that hits a little too close to home when the United States feels about reaching its boiling point.
In A24’s Civil War, 19 states seceded from the United States, with factions forming in the West and Florida. Meanwhile, the President says the conflict will be dealt with swiftly, but are things already impossible to control? While some choose to engage with the catastrophe head-on, others prefer to pretend like it’s not happening right outside their door. As the President sends the American military out to “resolve” matters in the West, people are left to despair as the world burns around them. Meanwhile, Kirsten Dunst’s character appears to be leading a team of journalists toward the U.S. Capitol, presumably to get answers about how they plan to quell the ongoing violence.
Garland’s Civil War is bound to strike a nerve with audiences because of the filmmaker’s depiction of violence and the moral divide among Americans. There’s nothing more chilling than a film plot that feels like it could happen for real at any given moment. With tensions at an all-time high in the States, Civil War could hold a mirror up to many of the horrors plaguing humankind. Cheerful, huh? I’m still dying to see it. Garland’s visual style is 100% my jam, and I like movies that pose big questions to the audience. Let’s go!
Civil War comes to theaters in Spring 2024.
