DISTANT LANDS Official Teaser Trailer
LOVE, DEATH + ROBOTS | Official Trailer

Gringo (2018)

Dir Nash Edgerton

Written by Matthew Stone, Anthony Tambakis

David Oyelowo, Charlize Theron, Joel Edgerton, Amanda Seyfried, Sharlto Copley, Yul Vazquez, Harry Treadaway, Alan Ruck.

Harold (Oyelowo), works for a Pharmaceutical company and his bosses Rich (Edgerton) and Elaine (Theron) are secretly planning on having the company merge with a large conglomerate. The three, have a business trip to Mexico, where unbenknonst to Harold, the two bosses cull a side business they set up – selling to cartel boss the ‘Black Panther’

When Harold learns these two secrets and that his wife is having an affair – he decides to do the first crazy thing in his life. Fake his kidnapping. But he doesn’t realise that The Black Panther thinks he is ‘the boss’ who has culled his business, and wants to meet him.

Okayish ‘black comedy’ has some decent talent involved, and is good for a night of entertainment. Some natural accents of the cast (British Oyleowo, Australian Edgerton, and South African Copley) do solid American accents, and give solid performances. Theron is given little to do, and Seyfried even less.

There is nothing too overly awe inspiring in the almost 2hr runtime, and it probably could have been culled by 20-25 minutes.

I wouldn’t say this is a fail of a film, but I wouldn’t choose to watch it again.

3/5
