Deadpool & Wolverine
Dir Sean Levy
Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman.
Wade Wilson has retired his alter ego Deadpool in order to live a normal life, as a car salesman. One day he is captured by the TVA (Time Variance Authority) led by Paradox. It seems his timeline is deteriorating due to the death of the ‘anchor being’ Logan. Wade, now redonning the Deadpool persona, finds another ‘variant’ of Logan in an alternate universe, but he and Logan are banished to ‘the void’ which is run by the uber powerful, and uber evil Cassandra Nova – the twin of Charles Xavier. They now must find their way back to Wade’s home Earth 10005 – and stop Cassandra from allowing his universe to crumble.
Very funny third film in the franchise. With Logan and Deadpool “once again” teaming up – but this time in the right way. The chemistry that Reynolds and Jackman have is off the chart, and this is all due to their real life friendship. There are plenty of laughs, and some very meta jokes about the casts real life. There are plenty of surprising cameos – some of which play to the fact that the cast member has been in multiple MCU projects playing multiple characters.
One thing the film does aside from the many laughs is the heart. There are some quite touching moments where Logan, who here has come from a different timeline, is dealing with severe PTSD, and meeting people from ‘our’ Logan’s past might just help him overcome it.
It does help having an understanding of past MCU films, and the entire franchise. As I’m not a ‘huge’ MCU fan – having only seen a handful of them myself, some of the jokes did go over my head. But thankfully I understood enough.
There is an overly cinematic score, and a soundtrack that easily cost a few dozen million, with plenty of fun tracks.
A big recommend from me.
