Several weeks ago an asteroid (or comet?) was discovered – and it is going to splash into the ocean off the east coast of America. When it doesn’t, but hits a major city instead – another comet is found to be behind it – and is going to hit earth in days causing an ELE (extinction level event). The story follows John (Butler) along with estranged wife Alison (Baccarin) and son Nathan – must try find their way to Greenland – where a bunker has been built to keep them safe.

There are some genuinely good graphics, but they are hampered by a bad screenplay (some dialogue is just eye rolling) and some on the nose performances. This is fine for a night in, but there is nothing outstanding in it – and some of the logic behind it is poor.

Only okay disaster troupe – has all the cliché’s in the book (broken up family, sick kid, family gets separated). Most of the middle sequence of the film is the trio split, and trying to find one another.

There is a subtle, but forgettable score that plays under the main events.

Surprisingly there has been a sequel ‘green’lit.
