Jurassic World Dominion
Dir Colin Trevorrow
Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, BD Wong, Campbell Scott.
Plot
Four years since the events of the previous film; Owen and Claire now live in isolation with Maise to keep her safe, but both still work trying to protect dinosaurs. A business ceo (Scott) wants Maise for her DNA, and kidnaps her, so mum and dad travel to the ends of the earth to get her.
Meanwhile Dr’s Grant, Sattler and Malcolm are reconnected when they discover that a new species of locusts have been produced with dino DNA and are ruining crops. It just so happens the guy who created it is the same guy who kidnapped Maise.
Direction
Poorly conceived, directed. There was one moment in the middle of the film that felt quite exciting, and that was the Malta chase scene. Other than this, it felt that the film was too reliant on poor CGI.
Cast/Characters
As much as I love Neil, he struggled to find the Grant character again, and his accent was at times too American and did not sound anything like the original characterisation.
There were too many new characters, and all were either silly cliché’s of the actors’ race, or were just food fodder for the dinosaurs.
Screenplay/Setting
The screenplay was odd at times, and the only saving grace was some comedic moments from Malcolm – who seems to be back to his normal character again.
I had no idea why they felt the need to include some story points and they served no purpose (the conflict between Maise and Claire).
Score
The score was almost giving forced emotion, and I’ve mentioned in other reviews how much I hate this – it is just manipulative. They thankfully used the original score from time to time, but not enough.
Overall
At 140m, it was just a struggle to get through. Sit this one out.
