Jaws 3
A great white shark finds its way into Sea World Orlando, where Mike Brody – son of Martin Brody, now an adult works, and history repeats itself with the shark terrorisisng the staff and customers of the park – just as Sean Brody comes to visit.
Direction
Filmed in 3D format, which was a thing of 1983. Only a handful of scenes used this, otherwise this felt like a pale imitation of the first two films. A couple of scares occur, as well as some original content in some scenes (such as when ‘the shark’ eats one character).
Some of the graphics feel like they should have been in a film from 1953, not 1983 too (as seen in my feature image)
Cast/Characters
Dennis Quaid plays Mike Brody, in one of his very earliest roles, and Louis Gossett Jr plays the owner of the park.
Most of the rest of the cast are names of the time, aside for some of the ‘secondary cast’ like Bess Armstrong and Lea Thompson.
The rest are a little forgettable, with no overly likeable/memoralbe characters.
Screenplay/Setting/Themes
With not much happening at all in the first half hour, the next hour is a little bit of a slog to get through.
Even Quaid is barely on screen in the last act, and reportedly hated filming this – which at times is fairly obvious.
Credit whereits due, the shark is big and has a couple of frightening moments, but it pales in comparrison to the first two films.
Score/Soundtrack
A new composer, with very little of the ‘shark theme’ by John Williams.
Overall
I watched this so you don’t have to.
I’m being very generous with this score, and I’m not looking forward to what is apparently the worst in the franchise in #4.
