DISTANT LANDS Official Teaser Trailer
LOVE, DEATH + ROBOTS | Official Trailer

Shoot Em Up

Plot

A man named Smith sees a pregnant woman being attacked, and in trying to save her and delivering her baby, she is killed. Soon he discovers an army of assassins is now after the baby. Thankfully he is an assassin too, and decides to stop them, and find out why they are after the baby.

Direction

Faced paced and gritty direction from Michael Davis, from a screenplay he wrote himself.

There is some moments of “shaky” camera – where it should not have been, which gave a dizzying effect when it should have been the (one) moment in the film that was serious.

Cast/Characters

Clive Owen plays Smith. This was in his Hollywood Heyday.

Monica Bellucci plays Donna, a prostitute that helps Smith keep the baby safe from the assassins.

Paul Giamatti plays Hertz, the leader of the assassins, who was clearly having a blast while filming.

Breakdown

Starting with the opening few seconds, with Smith sitting at a bus stop eating a carrot… you know this isn’t going to be a serious movie. It’s not, and the more you forget about logic, the better the ‘ride’ is.

At 86 minutes, its a breeze to get through, with more plot armour, action so stupid you have to laugh, and ‘Bond’ one liners than all the Bond films had combined.

The plot is… silly… with double crosses, baby farms, schemes to use bone marrow to save a senators life, second amendment discussions (very American, and still very current). For something so silly, it genuinely went to something more political than it needed to be.

Overall

This wanted to be a movie you didn’t have to think about, and for the first hour it was, but then the ‘political’ second amendment addition ruined it.

Passable, but just.

2.5/5
