Neve Campbell and a new cast join the Netflix spy thriller Black Doves as season 2 starts production

Fans of the Netflix spy series, Black Doves, rejoice! The streamer has just announced that season 2 has just gone into production. The cast that is returning will include stars Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw and Sarah Lancashire. They will also be joined by returning cast members Andrew Buchan, Kathryn Hunter, Ella Lily Hyland, Gabrielle Creevy, Agnes O’Casey and Molly Chesworth.

Additionally, Netflix has also announced the list of actors who will be joining the season. This upcoming cast is set to include Ambika Mod (One Day) playing Laila, an acerbic and anarchic Black Doves agent who is sent to help Helen on a mission. Babou Ceesay (Alien: Earth) plays Mr Conteh, a Black Doves executive with suspicious motivations and Sam Riley (Firebrand) plays Patrick, an emissary from a mysterious organisation, who offers Sam a lifeline. Also, Neve Campbell (Scream) will be joining the cast this season as Cecile Mason.

The official synopsis for season 2 reads,
“Helen (Keira Knightley) is still betraying her nation’s secrets to the covert organisation she serves: the Black Doves. But after the misadventures of last Christmas, and with her husband Wallace (Andrew Buchan), preparing to become Prime Minister, she is walking a more treacherous line than ever.

As Helen’s enigmatic handler Mrs Reed (Sarah Lancashire) is ensnared in a ruthless plot to undermine her position in the Black Doves, Helen is reunited with her best friend Sam (Ben Whishaw). The once high-end triggerman is now reduced to lonely drinks in Soho bars and low-rate hits. As they search for answers, loyalties are weaponised, trust is shattered, and the fight to protect the people they love could cost everything. With all the explosive wit of Series 1, Helen and Sam’s mission leads them back to old friends and enemies, through the dark decisions and painful sacrifices of their pasts, and right to the heart of the Black Doves.”

Our Alex Maidy enjoyed the first season when he gave the show a 7/10 rating and his review concluded, “Black Doves is a far more interesting character study of Ben Whishaw’s Sam and Keira Knightley’s Helen, both of whom are damaged people who complement each other perfectly. Usually, spy series turn the leads into romantic partners, but platonic best friends who look out for each other make for entertaining storytelling, and removing any sexual tension between the leads helps make both characters solid individual creations. I loved watching Knightley and Whishaw kick ass while also giving layered, human performances in a genre that often overlooks that part of the story. Black Doves is an entertaining drama that is also funny and has just enough action and intensity to keep you wanting more. At six episodes, it is a quick binge and one that will surely entertain many over the long holiday weekend.”
