HBO renews Chair Company, Task, I Love LA and House of the Dragon for new seasons
‘Tis a big, big morning for HBO. The premium movie channel with the immaculate TV series track record has recently ordered new episodes of this year’s hit shows, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline and an HBO press release. The Game of Thrones world continues to thrive as House of the Dragon has been given the go-ahead for a season four. Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max, Casey Bloys, made the announcement this morning during a presentation in New York City. This will surely be an epic conclusion for House of the Dragon as showrunner Ryan Condal has said the series is planned to end after its fourth season.
Bloys also announced the renewal of the Mark Ruffalo drama, Task. Word-of-mouth had pulled in more and more watchers of the show and the ratings had grown steadily over the season, which led to the season finale on October 19 getting over 4 million first-night viewers. Francesca Orsi, executive vp HBO Programming and head of HBO drama series and films, stated, “We knew well in advance of its launch that we had a powerful drama series on our hands, but it has been so rewarding to witness the audience’s fervor and embrace of this show as it grew week after week. Rarely does a writer balance humanistic storytelling with intricate, explosive plotting but Brad Ingelsby is one of our industry’s greats, and we have no doubt he will strike as profoundly and addictively once again in season two.”
Then, on the comedy front, Tim Robinson’s The Chair Company and Rachel Sennott’s I Love LA have also been renewed for another season. Amy Gravitt, EVP, HBO Programming, Head of HBO & HBO Max Comedy Series, made a statement about the renewals, “We’re thrilled by the incredible response to THE CHAIR COMPANY and I LOVE LA debuts. Both shows confidently carry on the HBO comedy tradition, in their own singular way. We couldn’t be happier to continue collaborating with Tim, Zach, Rachel, and their exceptional teams.”
The Chair Company became HBO’s top freshman comedy in platform history, with the season averaging 3.3 million U.S. cross-platform viewers, and I Love LA sits right under it as the second top freshman comedy in platform history, averaging nearly 2 million U.S. cross-platform viewers.
