Get ready to brave the American wilderness again when The Revenant re-releases in IMAX for its 10th anniversary
IMAX re-releases
Last year saw IMAX’s most profitable year after films like F1 and Sinners capitalized on the giant premium screens. So much so that those aforementioned films were re-released on IMAX screens a second time so audiences who missed the chance the first time around could catch them again. The company would even seize the opportunity to present older classic titles in their format. Last year, audience could revisit films like Jaws, Seven and Apollo 13 in IMAX for special anniversary re-releases.
The Revenant on IMAX
In this early-year Winter, you’ll be able to brave the harsh conditions of the wilderness with Alejandro Iñárittu’s The Revenant heading back into theaters on IMAX. According to Deadline, the movie is celebrating its 10th anniversary (10 years?!) and will be screening on Thursday, February 26, and Sunday, March 1. The film will also be released internationally in the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico.
The Revenant became a box office hit with $532 million earned globally and had won three Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio, Best Director for Iñárritu, and Best Cinematography for Emmanuel Lubezki.
Per Deadline, “The Revenant was written by Mark L. Smith and was based in part on Michael Punke’s 2002 novel of the same name. Inspired by real events, the film tells the story of a frontiersman in the 1800s who is left for dead and must survive a brutal winter in the wilderness before returning to avenge his son’s death.”
Alejandro Iñárrittu’s next
Meanwhile, this year will also see Iñárittu pair with Tom Cruise on Digger, which is due for October 2. The director glowed about working with Cruise, saying, “It was the most amazing, unexpected, sweet, gentle relation that I have had on a set. His manners, his understanding, his passion, and his integrity, and the way he prepares. He loves the process. Filmmaking has been his life for 40 years. I have never seen somebody so devoted. I was happy to share with him that passion. And at the same time, we built an incredible relation of mutual trust. He will surprise the world. People will see a new kind of thing.” He went on to praise the rest of the cast, adding, “It was blessed, and not only him, but all the cast: Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, and Jesse Plemons. We had a blast. It was challenging, but it was wild comedy. And we laugh a lot. We have a wild time.”
