The Housemaid’s Success
Sydney Sweeney’s star continues to rise after last year showcased her in the dramatic biopic Christy and the steamy thriller The Housemaid. The Housemaid, in particular, has become Sweeney’s most successful film as Variety reports that it just surpassed her Glen Powell romantic comedy, Anyone But You, to become her highest-grossing film with a worldwide box office earning of $300 million. This is a massive profit for the film, which had a $35 million budget. And it’s no wonder why Lionsgate is now moving forward with a sequel.
The Housemaid’s Secret
Even before the film hit its $300 million mark, the studio had announced that it would be adapting the second novel in the series, The Housemaid’s Secret, by author Freida McFadden. The Housemaid’s Secret has been in development for the past few months and production is planned to start sometime this year.
According to the press release, screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted The Housemaid, will also return to adapt the sequel. The producers on the sequel are set to include Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures, alongside Paul Feig and Laura Fischer of Feig’s Pretty Dangerous Pictures, who are also returning as producers, with Hidden Pictures’ Carly Elter and Alex Young and The Housemaid star Sydney Sweeney will be executive producing. McFadden will also serve as an executive producer. The project is being developed with the intention of director Paul Feig and stars Sydney Sweeney & Michele Morrone making a return.

It’s hard to gauge the consensus on Sydney Sweeney. She’s definitely an “It Girl” after her breakout on Euphoria, but controversies seem to follow her, whether it be a jeans ad or her recent promotional stunt for her newly launched lingerie line. The actress would post a video where she draped the famous Hollywood sign in bras. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which owns the Hollywood Sign, told TMZ, “There was no permission granted to do this as is required.” As for whether they will file a police report, they said, “We are still investigating how and under what authority (if any) the Sweeney production accessed the site of the Sign.”
