Harrison Ford adores Shrinking so much that he thinks it would be a “sufficient” way to close the curtain on his career
It’s no secret that we love the Apple TV comedy series Shrinking here at JoBlo. While Alex Maidy writes our reviews for the series, I also adore the sentimental and witty comedy, starring Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, Christa Miller, and more. The series blends comedy and drama in such satisfying ways, with everyone in the cast bringing their best to engaging, endearing, and thought-provoking characters. Recently, Harrison Ford said he loves the show so much that it would be a “sufficient” way to end his storied career. Is Ford planning his retirement? He is 83, so he may be feeling reflective.
What’s Shrinking about?
During a panel at Apple TV’s inaugural press day at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar, moderator Ashley Nicole Black asked if Shrinking’s “thought provoking” themes had prompted the cast to ask themselves any introspective questions. For the uninitiated, Shrinking stars Jason Segel as Jimmy, a grieving therapist who starts to tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making considerable changes to people’s lives – including his own.
Ford comments on his love for Shrinking
Answering Black’s question, Ford replied, “Where do you go from here? The kind of work that we’re able to do is remarkable given the tools we have to work with, and the notion that lies behind this series. And if it was all over here, that would be sufficient. This has been a different kind of job for me, and I’ve been doing this for a long time. This is very special and it really nurtures me and makes me feel like what we’re doing has value and importance. I look for that in my life and I’m happy to have found it here.”
In addition to commenting on Shrinking being a satisfying swan song (if it comes to that), Ford also spoke about Michael J. Fox’s guest spot for Season 3, saying he felt a real sense of responsibility to portray a character with Parkinson’s with authenticity and respect.
Ford on playing a character with Parkinson’s
“It was a bit daunting when I thought about it, because I am representing a character that has Parkinson’s, and Michael, of course, has the real thing,” Ford said during the panel. “I’ve always felt a real sense of responsibility for getting that part of my story right. But Michael is an extraordinary, generous and lovely fellow, who I did not know at all and had a chance to, just working on this show. It was an extraordinary experience to work with him. He is such a powerful presence. Such grace and courage and indomitability, and some of that, I hope, will help me color my portrayal of a character with Parkinson’s.”
Shut up! I’m not crying! You’re the one who’s crying!
