Prepare to dream big as Timothée Chalamet’s Oscar-nominated film Marty Supreme arrives on digital

The 98th Academy Awards won’t air until March 15, meaning there’s still time to catch up on all the Oscar-nominated films you’ve missed. While I’m sure your list is mighty (I know mine is), Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme is likely on the docket. Nominated for an impressive nine awards at this year’s celebration, Marty Supreme is finally coming to digital platforms today!

What’s Marty Supreme about?

Here’s the official synopsis for Marty Supreme:

“An original work set in the world of 1950s ping pong culture, Marty Supreme stars Timothée Chalamet as Marty Mauser – a young man with a dream no one respects, who goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness.”

Chalamet’s character, Marty Mauser, is based on the real-life figure Marty Reisman. Reisman passed away in 2012, but not before leaving behind a legacy of mythical proportions in the ping-pong community. The table tennis star began his career by hustling others in the lightning-fast game of paddle warfare. He won 22 significant ping pong titles from 1946 to 2002 and five bronze medals at the World Table Tennis Championships. At 67, Reisman played in the United States National Hardbat Championship and became the oldest player to win an open national competition in a racket sport. People loved watching Reisman play, and he was fearless in hamming up his skills for the audience, performing trick shots to wow the crowd.

Our thoughts on Marty Supreme

Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme is a 2025 favorite here at JoBlo, with our own Editor-in-Chief giving the film a perfect 10/10 in his review. Additionally, Chris also named Marty Supreme as the best film of 2025, saying, “Through it all, Safdie’s command of the audience is impressive, with him making the film such an intense experience I felt like I was in the midst of a drug-fuelled binge while watching it. He keeps your pulse pounding, and it’s the kind of movie one is tempted to immediately revisit after the credits roll. For me, it’s the movie of the year, and if film as a form seems to be dying off, at least there are guys like Safdie around who still deserve their place in the pantheon of great directors.”

While I don’t make as much time for movies as I’d like (unless it’s for work, then it’s my priority), Marty Supreme is on my list of films I’d like to see from last year. I think Chalamet is tremendously talented, and the clips I’ve seen make Marty Supreme look unpredictable and fun. Plus, there was a time when the movie might have ended with vampires? What? I’m not kidding. Check it out.
