DISTANT LANDS Official Teaser Trailer
LOVE, DEATH + ROBOTS | Official Trailer

Brie Larson, JT Mollner, JJ Abrams, and Brian Duffield team for creature feature Skeletons

Earlier this month, word spread around that Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) had signed on to star in a creature feature called Skeletons, which JT Moller (Strange Darling) would be directing from a screenplay by Spontaneous and No One Will Save You writer Brian Duffield while JJ Abrams produces through his company Bad Robot. This project was presented to potential buyers at the European Film Market – and now, Deadline reports that Sony Pictures is on the verge of securing the rights. They note that the worldwide deal “is landing in the $25M range and Sony beat out multiple suitors who wanted domestic rights.”

A Disturbing Secret

Duffield’s script is based on a short story by Philip Fracassi. The project was previously going by the title Fail-Safe. The story is told from the perspective of a young boy who slowly begins to discover that his beloved parents are hiding a disturbing secret about his mother’s true nature.

Larson is playing the mother with the secret true nature. Casting is underway for the roles of the child and the father.

Statement

Abrams previously provided the following statement about the project: “Brian Duffield has written an absolute powerhouse of a script. It’s a horror film that is as sweet and moving as it is terrifying. To have JT Mollner in the director’s chair (his Strange Darling blew me away) is a dream come true. Finally, having the limitlessly talented Brie Larson as our star sets the film up to be that rare horror film that makes you laugh, feel, and care, before taking you on an absolutely wild ride.“

Skeletons is coming our way from FilmNation Entertainment’s production label Infrared, JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, and Assemble Media. Drew Simon, JJ Abrams, Jon Cohen, and Jack Heller are the producers. Assemble’s Caitlin de Lisser-Ellen and Duffield serve as executive producers with Larson and Fracassi.

Filming is expected to take place this summer. While Mollner (who recently wrote the Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk) gears up for this production, he’s also collaborating with A24, Exurbia Films, Spooky Pictures, Image Nation, and Barnstorm on a Texas Chainsaw Massacre TV series.

I like the talent line-up on this one, so I look forward to seeing how Skeletons is going to turn out. Does this project sound interesting to you? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
