Jay and Silent Bob enter the Marvel universe in Jays of Future Past one-shot comic
Kevin Smith has been developing a third Jay and Silent Bob movie (following Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot) for a couple of years now, and while he works on getting that project into production, he has also been doing a lot of work in the comic book world. He contributed Giant-Size Amazing Spider-Man #1, has his own “Askewniverse” series called Quick Stops, and wrote the very unexpected crossover Archie Meets Jay & Silent Bob. Now, Jay and Silent Bob are set to cross over from the Askewniverse into the Marvel universe in the one-shot comic book Jay & Silent Bob: Jays of Future Past, which is scheduled to reach store shelves on June 10th!
A Quick Stop in the Marvel Universe
Marvel announced: This summer, Jay & Silent Bob team up with Marvel’s heroes in JAY & SILENT BOB: JAYS OF FUTURE PAST, a one-shot written by Kevin Smith and drawn by Giuseppe Camuncoli.
A lifelong True Believer, Kevin Smith has contributed to the Marvel legacy with his own Marvel Comics projects, frequent Marvel references in his film work and fun cameos on the comic page. Now, the moment he and fans have waited decades for finally arrives as his most beloved creations, Jay & Silent Bob, enter the Marvel Universe in a Multiverse-shattering one-shot! The duo will go on a wild trip across the Marvel mythos, teaming up with its greatest heroes against Doctor Doom, in an adventure that blends their iconic slacker humor with super hero overload!
Capped, tan American Jay and friendly neighborhood wider-man Silent Bob make a quick stop in the Marvel Universe! But when Doctor Doom decrees these Jersey guys must die, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men, and a whole hoary host of heroes must team up on a joint mission to save the dimwitted duo from a lethal case of super hero fatigue!
Statement
Smith provided the following statement: “From the moment in Mallrats when they made the very first reference to Wolverine in cinema history, I’ve always wanted Jay and Silent Bob to meet their Marvel heroes in a comic book crossover—so much so that I pitched it to Stan the Man himself the day he shot his cameo in the movie way back in 1995. Thirty years later, JAYS OF FUTURE PAST represents both a love letter to the magic and mayhem of Marvel, as well as giggle-inducing proof that our childhood dreams can still come true, even at age 55.”
He also took to social media to share some artwork and a script page, which can be seen below.
He added, “This big, fat 40 pager features the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men, Spider-Man and many more Marvel mainstays taking a trip to the Jersey shore to save Jay and Silent Bob from destruction by Doctor Doom! For the past year, #jayandsilentbob have been periodically popping up in the background of a bunch of books – but now the Jersey boys are ready for their Marvel spotlight! It was an absolute fanboy fantasy writing this bridge-and-tunnel tale to astonish but ogling the awesome art that @mchecc18 brings the book is equally elating! And similar to last year’s unexpected @archiecomics collab, we’ll be doing a collection of covers – including @jayandsilentbobstash exclusives from @captain_ribman and @thedarknatereturns! A silly story three decades in the making, JAYS OF FUTURE PAST is gonna be simply Marvel-ous!” Over the last year, Jay and Silent Bob are said to have made cameo appearances in ten different Marvel comics, and we have some examples below.
As a devoted fan of both Kevin Smith and Marvel, I will definitely be adding this book to my collection. Will you be reading Jay & Silent Bob: Jays of Future Past? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
