Lily Collins to play Audrey Hepburn in movie about the making of Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Lily Collins is set to play iconic actress Audrey Hepburn in a movie about the making of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The project has been in the works for almost a decade, but it’s finally moving forward.
About the Audrey Hepburn Movie
In a post on Instagram, Collins wrote, “It’s with almost 10 years of development and a lifetime of admiration and adoration for Audrey that I’m finally able share this. Honored and ecstatic don’t begin to express how I feel…“
Alena Smith (Dickinson) will write the script based on Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the Dawn of the Modern Woman by Sam Wasson.
The book charts the making of the film through pre-production, on-set issues, and the release, which cemented the movie as an icon of cinema, fashion, and culture. In addition to Hepburn, you can expect to see actors cast as Breakfast at Tiffany’s writer Truman Capote, costume designer Edith Head, director Blake Edwards, and more.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Based on the 1958 novella by Truman Capote, the film follows Holly Golightly (Hepburn), a charming but eccentric New York City socialite who meets a young struggling writer (George Peppard) when he moves into her apartment building. The film was a huge success upon its release in 1961, with Hepburn earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
The film was not without controversy, especially when it came to Mickey Rooney playing I. Y. Yunioshi, a Japanese character who lives in the same building. The portrayal is considered one of Hollywood’s most prominent examples of yellowface. I’d imagine this might be a plot point in the film, as Rooney’s casting was met with resistance from several involved in the production, but director Blake Edwards overruled them.
Emily in Paris
Collins is best known these days for starring in Emily in Paris, a romantic comedy-drama series on Netflix that follows an aspiring American marketing executive who moves to Paris to bring an American point of view to a French marketing firm. The series was renewed for a sixth season last month.
