Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Cecily Strong Team for Mary Bronstein’s Nanny Squatter Dramedy Series

Is Apple sponge-worthy? Julia Louis-Dreyfus thinks so, as she’s nearing a deal to partner with the studio for her next project. According to reports, Apple is nearing a deal to greenlight Nanny Squatters, a new dramedy series starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Cecily Strong.

Who Are the Creative Forces Behind Nanny Squatters?

Variety says Nanny Squatters draws inspiration from the New York Magazine article of the same name by Bindu Bansinath. Yeast, Round Town Girls, and If I Had Legs I’d Kick You director Mary Bronstein will get behind the camera as the project’s director, writer, and showrunner. Regarding the show’s plot, Nanny Squatters “centers on a couple whose lives are upended after welcoming a seemingly ideal caregiver into their home, only to find boundaries blurred and control slipping as the arrangement spirals into a tense, unsettling power struggle.”

In addition to their starring roles, Louis-Dreyfus and Strong will executive produce the series alongside Bronstein with Scoop Wasserstein of New York Magazine. Apple is also producing.

You Can’t Go Wrong With Julia Louis–Dreyfus

Julia Louis-Dreyfus hardly needs an introduction, but if you’ve been living under a rock since the 1990s, she starred as Elaine Benes in the classic comedy series about nothing, Seinfeld, before leading other fan-favorite shows like The New Adventures of Old Christine and the political satire Veep. If you’re a Marvel fan, you can catch her as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Black Widow, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and my favorite of the bunch, Thunderbolts*.

Cecily Strong is an SNL Star on the Rise

As for Cecily Strong, most people know her from Saturday Night Live or the musical television series Schmigadoon!, where she performs alongside Keegan-Michael Key. Her most recent role includes voicing Little Judith in Disney’s Zootopia 2, and she’s currently filming Vought Rising, a prequel series for Prime Video’s The Boys. The spinoff is set in the 1950s and follows Soldier Boy and Clara Vought (known to some as Stormfront) as they investigate a murder during the early days of Vought. Jensen Ackles leads the series, with Mark Pellegrino, Eric Johnson, Raphael Sbarge, David Hewlett, Aya Cash, Josh Randall, Aaron Douglas, Cecily Strong, Mason Dye, Kiki Layne, and more leading the cast.

I’m always interested in what Julia Louis-Dreyfus is cooking, and pairing her with Cecily Strong sounds like a comedic match that could go a long way. I’ll need to see a trailer to be sure, but Nanny Squatters sounds like a hilarious premise that could yield some fantastic drama. Let’s go!
