Scream 7 Takes a Stab at the Box Office With a Franchise High of $7.8M in Previews

Ghostface is back, baby, and they’re ready to take a stab at this weekend’s box office like never before! The latest chapter of Paramount and Spyglass‘s slasher series is in theaters now. Although it’s proving pretty divisive, that hasn’t stopped the horror sequel from reaching a franchise high, with $7.8 million in preview screenings.

Scream 7 Stabs All the Way to the Bank

Early earnings for Scream 7 (read our review here) are a welcome relief for theater owners, who over the past few weeks have endured sluggish box-office results. Looking at the numbers, Scream 7 is already drawing more blood from people’s bank accounts than Scream 6, which came out of the gate with $5.7M in previews in 2023. According to analysts, Scream 7 could earn between $40 million and $50 million, with some tracking services predicting it could go even higher.

Here We Go Again

Scream 7 finds the franchise rebooting itself yet again after losing Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, who starred as sisters in the fifth and sixth Scream movies. However, the seventh installment of the series features the original Scream queen, Neve Campbell, who returned to reprise the role of Sidney Prescott after a pay dispute over Scream 6. Scream 7 finds Sidney instructing her daughter, Tatum (Isabel May), on how to survive a Ghostface killer attack. Meanwhile, Courteney Cox reprises her role as Gale Weathers, with Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding as Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin, respectively. David Arquette also returns as Dewey Riley (somehow). Newcomers include Anna Camp, McKenna Grace, Asa Germann, Celeste O’Connor, Joel McHale, Tim Simons, Jimmy Tatro, and more.

Scream 7 FOMO

I’ve been debating whether to see Scream 7 in theaters, but I’m starting to get Scream FOMO. The sad truth is that I’ve not been to the theater to see anything that wasn’t work-related since Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and I have a stack of points and free tickets going to waste. The reality is that I’m busier than I’ve ever been, and finding time to go to the movies is rare. Plus, I’ve only got like two people to go to the movies with, and I don’t know that either will want to see Scream 7. It may be time for a solo venture, just me and a big bucket of buttery popcorn.
