Zombies 5 to Shamble Onto Disney+ & Disney Channel With Malachi Barton and Freya Skye Leading the Musical Sequel
After watching all four Zombies movies in a row for an interview opportunity last year (video posted below), I’m ready for more. I’m not kidding. Disney’s Zombies franchise is genuinely fun, high-spirited, and features surprising social commentary. Plus, my prediction about Malachi Barton and Freya Skye taking over as the leads of the franchise proved to be correct, as we’ll learn with today’s news that Disney+ and Disney Channel are giving a green light to Zombies 5!
Bucky is Back, Baby!
As I’d mentioned, Zombies 4 stars Malachi Barton and Freya Skye are returning as Victor and Nova for Zombies 5, with franchise stars Milo Manheim and Meg Donnelly stepping away from the camera to act as executive producers only. Additionally, Trevor Tordjman returns as Bucky, the beloved cheer captain and cousin of Addison from the original trilogy. YES! Bucky isn’t the best character at first, but he grows on you throughout the journey, like the spread of a zombie virus through your nervous system.
What’s the Plot of Zombies 5?
In Zombies 5, “the newfound peace between the Daywalkers and Vampires is put to the test when a band of fierce mermaids arrives in Rayburn, making waves and casting a persuasive siren song to lure in new allies. Nova and Victor must unite their groups once more to discover what the mermaids are really after in order to protect the fragile harmony they worked so hard to build.” Mermaids?! I freakin’ called it! Watch the interview video. You’ll see! Hey, Disney, where’s my check? It was the logical next step, but I put that concept out into the world. At least let me be a backup dancer!
Returning Stars & Newcomers
The returning cast also includes Zombies 4’s Swayam Bhatia as Vera, Julian Lerner as Ray, and Mekonnen Knife as Vargas. New to the franchise are a trio of mysterious mermaids: Diaana Babnicova as cool-girl Pearl, Taylor Oliver as bad-boy Fin, and Olive Mortimer as tech-wiz Sandy. Emily Costtrici joins the cast as zombie Izzy, Zed’s zombie cousin and new transfer student. Dondraico Johnson will choreograph the “next-level” dance sequences, set to an original soundtrack by Tom Howe.
