Stewie Griffin Is Getting His Own Family Guy Spinoff Series With a 2-Season Order at Fox & Hulu
If you thought the world of Family Guy was winding down, think again! Stewie Griffin, the devious toddler with an undying love for his teddy bear, Rupert, and an Oedipus complex, is getting his own spinoff series at Fox and Hulu. The new animated comedy, which will follow Stewie in preschool and explore time and space travel, comes from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane and 20th Television Animation.
The new spinoff series, titled Stewie, is getting a two-season order, with plans to launch the show on Fox during the 2027-28 season, streaming the next day on Hulu and internationally on Disney+. Fox’s pickup of Stewie is part of a larger animation slate, with shows like Family Guy, American Dad, Bob’s Burgers, and The Simpsons now running through 2029. According to Deadline, Fox and Hulu will share the cost of producing Stewie. Fox remains mum on how many episodes of Stewie fans can expect, but they hear it’s around 15 per season. Naturally, Seth MacFarlane will reprise the role of Stewie Griffin for the new series.
What’s the New Family Guy Spinoff About?
“In the offshoot, after getting the boot from his old preschool, Stewie is forced to enroll in a new one that’s not exactly top-of-the-line,” Deadline shares in its report. “It’s attended by a handful of kids he doesn’t know, and a 75-year-old class turtle with a half-cocked theory on just about every subject. Stewie’s miserable, the other kids are miserable, and even the turtle is miserable… until Stewie begins rolling out his trusty array of devices to take them anywhere in space and time, turning every boring day at school into an insane and surreal adventure.”
Don’t Worry, Brian Griffin is in the New Series
Hold up! Is this Stewie’s Magic School Bus in disguise? Has he taken Ms. Frizzle hostage? Sources say that’s not the case, but can we trust them? In addition to introducing new characters, Stewie features callbacks to Family Guy, with Stewie using the time machine platform he built in the mothership show to travel through time and space. Deadline also says that Brian Griffin, the Griffin family’s beloved martini-drinking dog, will make appearances in the new series.
You know what? I’m game. I fell away from Family Guy for a few years, but thanks to the power of social media, clips of the show prove it’s still worth tuning in for after 24 years on the air. Stewie is one of my favorite characters from the show, and taking him on more time-traveling misadventures sounds like a great way to spend a half-hour to me.
