Street Fighter game director visits the set of the new film for a behind-the-scenes featurette with new footage

Has someone finally made a live-action Street Fighter movie that’s worthy of the legendary fighting game franchise? I don’t know if it’s just good marketing or the art of showing select clips from the upcoming film that speak to old-school fans, but I am PUMPED for this movie to hit theaters on October 16, 2026! To get audiences excited about the upcoming adaptation of Capcom‘s time-honored fighting game film, a new featurette is making the rounds. For the latest behind-the-scenes look at Street Fighter, game director Takayuki Nakayama visited the set of Kitao Sakurai’s live-action adaptation, and things got exciting.

Nakayama talks about the authenticity of Street Fighter

While speaking with the cast, crew, and filmmakers, Nakayama said, “The director and everyone else involved in the production all love Street Fighter, and are fans, just like us, which gives me great comfort.”

“I think they’ve managed to accomplish something very difficult in a really smart way. This is the Street Fighter I know,” Nakayama added.

As the video continues, we find Nakayama challenging Cody Rhodes to a game of Street Fighter 6. Naturally, Cody gets his ass kicked, but that’s par for the course when challenging the man who literally directed the game. After Cody insists on “one more round” against Nakayama, the featurette goes into “Montage Mode,” with plenty of hard-hitting footage from the upcoming film. If you watch closely, many of your favorite Street Fighter characters are there, including one of my personal favorites, Cammy.

What is Street Fighter about?

Here’s the official logline for Street Fighter: “Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”

Bad Trip’s Kitao Sakurai directs Legendary’s Street Fighter movie from a screenplay by Dalan Musson (Captain America: Brave New World, Iron Sky: The Coming Race, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier). Callina Liang (Presence, Bad Genius) plays Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian plays M. Bison, Orville Peck plays Vega, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson plays Balrog, Jason Momoa plays Blanka, Andrew Koji plays Ryu, Noah Centineo plays Ken Masters, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, and controversial podcaster Andrew Schultz as Dan Hibiki. Plus, Eric André as Don Sauvage, Mel Jarnson as Cammy, Cody Rhodes as Guile, and Rayna Vallandingham as Juli.
