Martial arts icon Chuck Norris passes away at 86

Chuck Norris, the six-time undefeated World Professional Middleweight Karate Champion and martial arts star of movies and TV, has passed away at the age of 86. There were some recent rumblings online that Norris had to be rushed to the hospital while in Hawaii this week. According to Variety, the circumstances that surround the situation are not known, as his family is currently remaining private, but they would address the fans on his social media.

The Norris family posted the official announcement on his official Instagram page. The post would read,
“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning. While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.

To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family.

He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives.

While our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for the life he lived and for the unforgettable moments we were blessed to share with him. The love and support he received from fans around the world meant so much to him, and our family is truly thankful for it. To him, you were not just fans, you were his friends.

We know many of you had heard about his recent hospitalization, and we are truly grateful for the prayers and support you sent his way.

As we grieve this loss, we kindly ask for privacy for our family during this time.

Norris was prolific in the martial arts world as a Karate champion who first won his title in 1968, then he went on to defend it consecutively for six years until his retirement in 1974. Norris held an amazing overall career record of 183 wins, 10 losses, and 2 draws. Norris would also work out with fellow martial arts icon Bruce Lee and Lee would have Norris break into film with their famous Roman colosseum showdown in the 1972 film The Way of the Dragon, which was written and directed by Lee. Norris would remark in interviews how he helped influence Lee on the benefits of high kicking when Lee felt it was too flashy.

After The Way of the Dragon, Norris would go on to build an equally prolific career in movies and TV. He was given praise for his performance in Code of Silence from 1985. Norris would become one of Cannon Films’ popular action stars in their stable, starring in movies like The Delta Force, Invasion U.S.A. and the Missing in Action series. His later work would include the beloved Karate Kid-like film Sidekicks and Norris would make a much-requested appearance among his action peers in The Expendables 2. The action star would return to movies as recently as 2024 with an appearance in a film titled Agent Recon.

On the TV front, Norris had a successful series on CBS with Walker, Texas Ranger. The show started in 1993 and ran for eight seasons with 203 episodes and a TV movie in 2005.

Norris’ legacy had become tongue-in-cheek in his later years as he became a popular recurring bit online about being the toughest person in existence. There are countless jokes about how Chuck Norris defied the laws of the universe. Norris was a great sport about it all, even telling his own “Chuck Norris joke” during his appearance in Expendables 2.
