Chloe Okuno to direct horror film Bad Hand for producer Elizabeth Banks
About a year and half has gone by since Sony Pictures and producer Jason Reitman hired Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk, the actors/writers/directors behind the horror comedy Hell of a Summer, to write and possibly direct a remake of Rodman Flender’s 1999 horror comedy Idle Hands. (A movie which was basically a feature expansion of an idea previously seen in Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead II.) While we wait to see what’s going to happen with that project, Deadline has broken the news that Searchlight Pictures is moving ahead with something that sounds similar: a horror movie called Bad Hand.
Creative Team
Watcher director Chloe Okuno has signed on to take the helm of Bad Hand, working from a screenplay by Black Christmas (2019) co-writer April Wolfe.
The story centers on a mild-mannered kindergarten teacher who, a week before her wedding, is the victim of a hit and run. In the wake of the accident, she discovers to her horror that the trauma has caused her right hand to act with a mind of its own, bent on bloody revenge.
If her hand had been severed in the accident, we’d be in the territory of Oliver Stone’s The Hand.
Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman, and Alison Small are producing Bad Hand for Brownstone Productions, while Head of Acquisitions and Production Chan Phung and Director of Acquisitions and Production Marielle Membreno oversee the project for Searchlight, reporting to Heads of Production and Development DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas.
That’s all the information we have on Bad Hand for now, but we’ll keep you updated as more is revealed.
Well, I have, to varying degrees, enjoyed Evil Dead II, Idle Hands, and The Hand, so I’m open to watching some more “bad hand” movies from different filmmakers. Black Christmas (2019) wasn’t very good, but I did like Watcher, so I’m cautiously optimistic that the team of April Wolfe and Chloe Okuno could bring us something interesting here.
In addition to Watcher, Okuno has directed a segment of the anthology V/H/S/94 and episodes of the TV shows Teacup and Let the Right One In. Wolfe also wrote the Michael Day / Francesca Eastwood thriller Clawfoot.
