Signal One: Isabelle Fuhrman, Josh Hutcherson sci-fi movie secures Radial Entertainment distribution

A few months ago, production wrapped on the horror film Orphans, which sees Isabelle Fuhrman reprising the serial killer role she previously played in the 2009 thriller Orphan and its 2022 prequel Orphan: First Kill. While we wait for that movie to come along, Variety reports that Furhman also stars in the sci-fi movie Signal One, which has just secured a North American distribution deal with Radial Entertainment. The company will release the film in the U.S. and Canada, and they hold the theatrical and home entertainment rights, as well as ancillary rights for cross-platform releases. They haven’t revealed exactly when they plan to release the film.

Synopsis

Written and directed by Jonathan Sobol (A Beginner’s Guide to Endings, The Baker), Signal One has the following synopsis:

When tech billionaire Sam Houston hires the brilliant computer scientist Annika , she ventures to an isolated facility run by the brilliant, nihilistic creator of LITTLEMOUTH, a machine which can communicate with alien intelligence. Annika soon learns some humanity-altering facts: that we are not alone in the universe, that alien intelligences are communicating around us at every moment, and that we are likely too primitive to even remotely understand what they are trying to tell us. But when the goal of the endeavor shifts from listening to talking back, the project rapidly devolves into chaos. With contact comes consequences, and soon Annika and the team must work to ensure the very survival of our species.

Fuhrman is joined in the cast by Josh Hutcherson (Five Nights at Freddy’s), David Thewlis (the Harry Potter franchise), and Dennis Quaid (The Substance).

Coming our way from Motion Pictures Exchange, Signal One was produced by Doug Murray and Nicholas Tabarrok.

Statement

Jordan Fields, senior vice president of acquisitions at Radial Entertainment, provided the following statement: “Some films come along just when we need them to, and Signal One is the perfect example. Jonathan tells an urgent and incredibly engaging story that asks questions about our place in the universe. It’s essential sci-fi, both sophisticated and emotional, and the stellar cast is in top form. Provocative, thoughtful entertainment like this will resonate with a wide audience.“

Ryan Bury of Motion Pictures Exchange added, “Elevated, intelligent sci-fi like Signal One is exactly the kind of storytelling audiences are gravitating toward. We’re proud to once again partner with Shout! Studios/Radial Entertainment to bring the film to audiences for a strong, impactful and meaningful release.“

And Nicholas Tabarrok had this to say: “I’m excited for audiences to see this thought-provoking, mind-bending ‘real’ science-fiction story being brought to screen by this incredible cast of talented actors.“
