Liminal: Vanessa Kirby & Yahya Abdul-Mateen II to star in sci-fi thriller from Louis Leterrier

There’s a little Marvel team-up in the works as Deadline reports that Vanessa Kirby (Fantastic Four: First Steps) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Wonder Man) have signed on to star in Liminal, a sci-fi action thriller from Louis Leterrier (Fast X).

Liminal

The film is based on the graphic novel Telepaths by J. Michael Straczynski, Steve Epting and Brian Reber. Although the plot of the movie is being kept under wraps, the comic “takes place in a world where a tenth of the population suddenly gains telepathic powers as a result of electromagnetic disturbance. Subsequently, newly telepathic Boston police find themselves contending with a faction, led by a wrongly convicted prisoner, who are trying to escape a world in which their powers will make them targets.“

Liminal is set up at Apple Studios, with Justin Rhodes (Terminator: Dark Fate) writing the script. Zach Studin will produce for AWA Studios, alongside Kevin Walsh for The Walsh Company. Ray Angelic will executive produce alongside Straczynski, Epting, and Reber, with Patrick McNamara co-producing for The Walsh Company. Juliet Kirby is also co-producing.

Kirby will next be seen starring alongside Sebastian Stan in Ruins, an adaptation of Amy Taylor’s novel. The story follows a couple whose affair with a young Greek woman over the course of a summer in Athens threatens to crack their relationship wide open.

As for Abdul-Mateen II, he’s fresh off Marvel’s Wonder Man (which has been renewed for a second season) and will next star in Man on Fire, which will premiere on Netflix on April 30. Based on A.J. Quinnell‘s book series, Man on Fire tells the story of John Creasy. Once a high-functioning and skilled Special Forces Mercenary, known for surviving even the most desolate of situations, Creasy is now plagued with intense PTSD. Determined to overcome his personal demons, he sets out on a path to redemption. But before he can adjust to this new life, he finds himself back in the fire, fighting harder than ever.

Leterrier is gearing up to direct Fast Forever, the supposedly final installment of the main Fast & Furious franchise. The project has been delayed several times, but it’s currently slated for a March 17, 2028 release.
