Here’s why Matthew Fox said shooting Taylor Sheridan’s The Madison “felt like home”
Taylor Sheridan’s unbroken run of hit shows continues, with his latest, The Madison, giving him the biggest first-season debut he’s ever had, with it getting over 8 million streams on Paramount Plus in its first ten days of streaming. Despite him soon decamping for his sprawling deal at Universal, there’s a whole lot of Sheridan stuff on the way, with the Yellowstone spin-off, Dutton Ranch, on its way, plus new seasons of Lioness, Mayor of Kingstown, and Landman (my pick for his best current show).
One of the reasons actors seem to flock to his shows are the shooting locations, which are about as removed from your typical city-set drama as you can get. One person who loved shooting near the Madison River (where the show gets its title from) in Montana is Matthew Fox, who as of late has been very selective in his choice of material. “It felt like home,” he told us during a recent interview promoting the show. “I grew up in northwestern Wyoming, just south of where we were shooting,” he reveals. “It looks a lot like where we were shooting on The Madison. So, I was impressed with The Madison. It felt like home to me. The entire experience was terrific.”
In the show, Matthew Fox plays Paul Clyburn, the brother of Kurt Russell’s Preston, the patriarch of the family at the show’s center. The two have many fly-fishing sequences together, which Fox says he enjoyed. “I grew up fly fishing from a very early age with my brothers. All of that felt beautiful, and I loved it.”
Beau Garrett, who co-stars as Abigail Reese, the daughter of both Russell’s Preston and the show’s lead, Michelle Pfeiffer’s Stacy, agreed with Fox. “Every day that you’d drive to set, and it would be dark, and you’d try not to hit deer, and then you’d see this land of lights in the middle of nowhere. You’d go into hair and makeup, and then you’d come out and the sun would be rising. It was like, ‘how is this possible?’” adding, “every day I fell more in love with this place.”
The Madison’s first season, which dropped in two three-episode chunks, is now streaming on Paramount Plus, with more episodes likely set to follow in either late 2026 or early 2027 (the season has already been shot).
