Scream Factory releasing George A. Romero’s Day of the Dead on 4K this summer
At long last, George A. Romero’s Day of the Dead is coming to 4K, and Scream Factory has announced it will be releasing a four-disc collector’s edition of the film on June 16. Mark your calendar!
The original film elements were considered lost, but the company unearthed them last year. “After years of searching, finally tracking [the film elements] down was a moment worth celebrating — and restoring it to its full, gory glory was an honor we didn’t take lightly,” said Radial Entertainment’s Jeff Roland. “This all-time classic has come back to life, exactly as it deserves to be seen.” Thus, Day of the Dead has been newly restored in 4K from the long-thought-lost original interpositive, presented with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio.

For a long time, Day of the Dead was seen as lesser than Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, but it’s been great to see it become more appreciated over the years. It’s grim and gory with some of the best zombie effects ever put on film. Toss in Bub the zombie and the over-the-top villain Captain Rhodes (Choke on ’em!!), and you’ve got one hell of a fun sequel.
