Jamie Bell leads a new generation of Peaky Blinders in first-look image
The Peaky Blinders news just doesn’t stop coming! Created by Steven Knight, the British historical crime drama ran for six seasons on BBC One and BBC Two, beginning in 2013 and wrapping up in 2022. Just two weeks ago, a follow-up feature film called Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man reached theatres and the Netflix streaming service (you can read our review at THIS LINK) – but that was far from the end of this franchise! As announced six months ago, BBC and Netflix are teaming up for a sequel series, which is already confirmed to have two seasons. Today, a first-look image featuring a character played by Jamie Bell has been unveiled, and you can check it out at the bottom of this article.
A New Generation
Up to this point, the star of Peaky Blinders has been Cillian Murphy as Thomas “Tommy” Shelby, the leader of the Peaky Blinders crime gang. The sequel series will feature a new generation of Shelbys.
According to Netflix, the series will be two seasons, each featuring 6 x 60’ episodes, shot at Digbeth Loc. Studios, Birmingham. Both seasons are produced by Kudos (SAS Rogue Heroes, House of Guinness, Grantchester) and Garrison Drama (Peaky Blinders Series 1-6, The Peaky Blinders Film). The timeline of the sequel will follow on from the anticipated Peaky Blinders feature film.
The official logline reads, Britain, 1953. After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel. In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger. At its blood-soaked heart is Duke Shelby: older, wiser, more ambitious, and most certainly more dangerous.
Jamie Bell (All of Us Strangers) takes the mantle of Duke Shelby in a story set ten years after the events of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. Also confirmed to join the cast are Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey), Lashana Lynch (The Day of the Jackal), and Lucy Karczewski (Stereophonic) in her television debut.
