The original 1986 Highlander comes to 4K in a region-free Ultra-HD Blu-ray from StudioCanalUK
Before Chad Stahelski takes you back to the rolling green hills with Henry Cavill and Dave Bautista in the remake of Highlander, the 1986 classic will be coming back to UK cinemas for its 40th anniversary, but for fans stateside, a new 4K Blu-ray will also be released with a region-free disc, despite being a UK product. Blu-ray.com reports that the Limited Edition 4K/Blu-ray combo set will be hitting retailers on June 29.
The description reads,
The two-disc Collector’s Edition Boxset will include brand new artwork by Sophie Bland with removable O-ring so the clean artwork can be displayed; 2 posters; three exclusive booklets – a 100-page collector’s booklet, an 84-page booklet including lost scenes and excerpts from the script that were never filmed with new analysis from HIGHLANDER expert Jonathan Melville, a 32-page collectable Titan Comics minibook; and a wealth of extras including interviews and commentaries with the director and cast.
A favorite ’80s cult classic, HIGHLANDER was directed by Russell Mulcahy (Swimming Upstream, Teen Wolf) and stars Christopher Lambert (Mortal Kombat, Fortress), Sean Connery (James Bond), Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption, Starship Troopers), Roxanne Hart (The Verdict), Beatie Edney (In The Name of The Father) and Hugh Quarshie (Star Wars: The Phantom Menace). Featuring an unforgettable original score by Michael Kamen and Queen, the film went on to inspire four further sequels and several television series with a reboot in the works.
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE
After inexplicably surviving a mortal wound during a clan battle in the Scottish Highlands in 1536, Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) is accused of witchcraft and banished from his village. Years later, he meets Ramirez (Sean Connery), a swordsman who teaches MacLeod the truth about himself: he belongs to an immortal race who can only die when the head is cut from the body.
MacLeod fights his way through the centuries until the time of The Gathering, when the few immortals who have survived the ages will come together to fight until just one remains. In 1980s New York City the final fight is about to begin and, in the end, there can be only one…
