Extraction director Sam Hargrave to helm Sony’s It Had To Be You action film
Ahead of this evening’s presentation at CinemaCon, Sony Pictures and Platinum Dunes are excited to announce that Extraction franchise director Sam Hargrave is on board to direct the upcoming action film It Had To Be You. Hargrave directs the project from a screenplay by Eliza Jane Brazier, based on her novel of the same name.
What’s It Had To Be You about?
In addition to penning the script, Brazier executive produces the film, which “follows two contract killers, each with a hit out on the other, who must fight their growing attraction as they face off in an epic game of lust and murder across Western Europe.”
While behind the camera, Hargrave will produce It Had To Be You alongside Cameron Fuller of Platinum Dunes. Fuller’s been on the ground floor of the project from the start, selling the spec to the studio before any stars or director were attached.
Extraction 3 is a go
Less than a week ago, Hargrave and AGBO announced Extraction 3, with Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba, and Golshifteh Farahani reprising their roles as Tyler Rake, Alcott, and Nik Khan, respectively. Plot details for Extraction 3 remain in the shadows, but we can expect Rake and his team to once again go behind enemy lines for another in-your-face extraction mission. When Extraction debuted on Netflix in 2020, the film rose to the top of the Popular English Films list, with audiences marveling at Chris Hemsworth’s dedication to delivering a visceral action experience with plenty of bullets to chew and necks to snap. The film became so popular that Extraction earned two Critics’ Choice nominations, Best Action Movie and Best Actor in an Action Movie for Hemsworth.
Hargrave gets behind the wheel of Matchbox: The Movie
When Hargrave isn’t expanding the Extraction franchise or making deals with Sony and Platinum Dunes, he’s putting the finishing touches on his upcoming Matchbox: The Movie, which hails from Apple and Skydance, with John Cena leading the cast, which also includes Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Golshifteh Farahani, Danai Gurira, Corey Stoll, Teyonah Parris, Bill Camp, and more.
