Noah Wyle addresses the departure of Supriya Ganesh from the cast of The Pitt

Staff change at The Pitt

It was recently reported that Supriya Ganesh was leaving the chart-topping medical drama, while Ayesha Harris, who recurs as night shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis, will become a series regular. Ganesh’s character had been contemplating her next steps in her medical career after fate derailed her plans to return to her home state of New Jersey. She would be the latest actor to leave The Pitt after Tracy Ifeachor’s Dr. Heather Collins exited the series after the first season.

Variety now reports that The Pitt star, Noah Wyle, and the series creator, R. Scott Gemmill, have addressed Ganesh’s departure from the show. Wyle and Gemmill attended a screening of The Pitt at PaleyFest in Los Angeles and spoke at a panel on Sunday night. Wyle told Variety,

It’s an inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show because as writers we’re hard pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically. Wyle continued to say, “Dr. Mohan is a beloved character, and I love playing with her and working with Supriya, and we wish her all the best in her next endeavors, and we’re going to miss her.”

R. Scott Gemmill talks Ganesh’s exit

While on the red carpet at PaleyFest, Gemmill, the creator of the acclaimed HBO Max series said, “It’s sort of the nature of the show. Unfortunately, the way the medical profession works, you come in, you learn, you move on, and we want to try and be as truthful to that process as possible. So we’re going to turn over our cast. But I think it’s a great launching pad for people and that’s the best we can do.”

Ganesh was originally set to attend the PaleyFest event, but she would post on her social media the previous day that she would not be attending, “Hi everyone, not sure why it’s not removed off the site but I will not be at PaleyFest this Sunday. I know some of you bought tickets to see me and I hope you know this is not a decision I take lightly. Love you all.”
