DISTANT LANDS Official Teaser Trailer
LOVE, DEATH + ROBOTS | Official Trailer

Money Train (1995)

Dir Joseph Ruben

Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrelson, Jennifer Lopez, Robert Blake, Chris Cooper.

Foster brothers John (Snipes) and Charlie (Harrelson), have grown up to become transit cops in NYC. They find themselves on the wrong side of transit captain Patterson (Blake), who only cares about his ‘Money Train’ – a train which carries subway revenue. New recruit to their team is Grace (Lopez), who the brothers are instantly attracted to.

Fairly standard mid 90s action film, with Snipes and Harrelson working well together here as they did in their previous film ‘White Men Can’t Jump’.

There is the obligatory action, and the love triangle between the brothers and Grace is written well, as we genuinely like all three characters.

What sets this apart from most of the movies of the time is the lack of a real antagonist. There is the unnamed arsonist who terrorises ticket booth attendants (Cooper), and the oddly written Transit captain (Blake). This character was a bit of a conundrum, as it’s not really evident what his role was – is he the brothers boss?

Not the best film of the genre of the time, but not the worst either. I could go either way on this, but the nostalgia in me still gives it a thumbs up.

3/5
