Ryan Reynolds reteaming with Shawn Levy for a heist project at Netflix
Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy are getting the band back together for the first time in (checks watch) a few minutes! After working on projects like Free Guy, The Adam Project, and Deadpool 3, the dynamic duo can’t get enough of each other. They’re reuniting for an untitled global heist project at Netflix to bring their friendship to the next level. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix won the project after a heated bidding war with other outlets.
Levy directs the untitled heist project from a script by Dana Fox (Cruella, The Lost City, How to Be Single), with a dream team assembling to produce. That team includes Reynolds, courtesy of his Maximum Effort studio, Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon via Genre Films. Ashley Fox and Johnny Pariseau join the production effort via Maximum Effort.
Netflix will spend the remainder of this holiday season with dollar signs dancing like sugarplums in their heads, thinking about the money and increase to their subscriber count the Reynolds/Levy project is sure to bring. Word around the water cooler suggests the battle to host the duo’s new project was fierce. Unfortunately, it’ll be a while before the heist project gets up and going, as both Reynolds and Levy are busy bees. Thankfully, early development is already underway.
Meanwhile, Reynolds and Levy are filming one of 2024’s most-anticipated films, Deadpool 3. The R-rated threequel pairs the Merc with a Mouth (Reynolds) with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), fulfilling the wet dreams of Marvel zombies worldwide. Emma Corrin, Jennifer Garner, Morena Baccarin, Matthew Macfayden, Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, Karan Soni, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, and Stefan Kapicic also star in the comedic superhero adventure.
After several leaks found their way onto the internet, Reynolds began fighting back with fake spoilers on Twitter. Speaking about the leaks, Reynolds released a statement, saying, “Surprises are part of the magic of theatrical movies,” Reynolds wrote. “It’s important for us to shoot the new DEADPOOL film in real, natural environments, using practical effects as opposed to making the movie indoors and digitally. Telephoto lenses continue to spoil surprises and create a difficult situation for everyone.”
Reynolds continued, “Here’s hoping some of the websites and social channels hold back showing images before they’re ready. The film is built for audience joy — and our highest hope is to preserve as much of that magic as possible for the finished film and the big screen. Part of the reason people post spoilers is because they’re excited. I realize these aren’t real world issues and it’s firmly in the ‘good problems’ bucket. I love making this movie.”
