The Bricklayer trailer finds Aaron Eckhart stacking bodies by the barrowful in the Renny Harlin-directed action film
Cliffhanger producer and The Legend of Hercules director Renny Harlin is back with another hard-hitting action film that aims to hit you like a ton of bricks. Hailing from Vertical, The Bricklayer stars Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight, Thank You for Smoking) and revolves around a rogue insurgent blackmailing the CIA by assassinating foreign journalists and making it appear the agency is responsible. As other nations turn against the U.S., the CIA must lure Steve Vail (Eckhart) – their most brilliant and rebellious operative – out of retirement. With an elite and deadly skill set, Vail is tasked with helping clear the agency’s name, forcing him to confront his checkered past while unraveling an international conspiracy.
Bringing pain alongside Steve to those who deserve it most is Nina Dobrev’s (The Final Girls, Let’s Be Cops, xXx: Return of Xander Cage) Kate, a young, no-nonsense agent with a penchant for violence and a mean trigger finger. Clifton Collins Jr. (Star Trek, Capote, Traffic), Tim Blake Nelson (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, The Incredible Hulk, O Brother, Where Art Thou?), and Ilfenesh Hadera (Baywatch, Oldboy, Master of None) also star as primary cast members.
Renny Harlin directs The Bricklayer from a script by Hannah Weg and Matt Johnson. Is it me, or are you getting old-school action movie vibes from today’s The Bricklayer trailer? The promo contains one-liners, outrageous explosions, pulse-pounding action, sexy evening wear, and attitude. I couldn’t help but chuckle when Eckhart said, “I’m the Bricklayer.” That’s not a slight to the material. I live for this kind of flick. Absurd action movies are the bedrock of my upbringing, and The Bricklayer looks like a great popcorn muncher with style.
If you don’t feel like waiting until January 5 to see The Bricklayer in theaters, On Demand, and Digital, consider checking out Eckhart’s recent action film Rumble Through the Dark. Starring Eckhart, Bella Thorne, Ritchie Coster, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste, the story takes place in the dark landscape of the Mississippi Delta, where a bare-knuckle cage fighter seeks to repay his debts in a final, desperate attempt to salvage the family home of his dying foster mother.
