Triton: The Witcher’s Freya Allan to star in fantasy horror thriller
Freya Allan, who plays Cirilla on the Netflix series The Witcher, has a lead role in the upcoming horror film Baghead, which is aiming for a January 2024 release. Now The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Allan has signed on to star in another genre project, the fantasy horror thriller Triton!
Triton is already in production in Athens, Greece. Allan is joined in the cast by Josh Whitehouse (Daisy Jones and the Six), Raff Law (who is the son of Jude Law and Sadie Frost, and can be seen on the show Masters of the Air), Elsie Hewitt (Dave), musician Malcolm McRae, and Luc Besson’s daughter Thalia Besson, who recently had a role in Ray Liotta’s last film, Dangerous Waters.
Janell Shirtcliff is directing the film and crafted the story with screenwriter Angie Simms. That story centers on three young women who, while in a vacation in Greece, run afoul of three charismatic young men who prove to be much more than they seem.
Triton is being produced by Brad Feinstein of Romulus Entertainment, and Feinstein is also financing the project. Producing alongside Feinstein / Romulus are Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Range, Adonis Tountas, and Everlast Pictures. Fred Berger and Casey Durant of Range serve as executive producers, as do Ioannis Meramveliotakis, Alex O’Neal of 24FPS, Josh Glick, and Zac Frognowski.
Shirtcliff made her feature directorial debut with the 2021 film Habit, which starred Bella Thorne and Gavis Rossdale in the story of “a street-smart party girl who gets mixed up in a violent drug deal and finds a possible way out by masquerading as a nun.” Shirtcliff and Simms previously worked together on the short (11 minutes) documentary Mother of the Dawn, about a female truck driver in Brazil who began having visions of extraterrestrial spirits in the 1950s and created a religion that has 800,000 followers.
I haven’t seen Habit or Mother of the Dawn, but Triton sounds interesting enough that I look forward to seeing how it’s going to turn out.
