Cool World
Plot
In 1945, fresh from his return from WW2, Frank Harris takes his mother for a ride on his new motorcycle. After a crash that kills her, he is mysteriously transported to a ‘cartoon’ world called Cool World, where he never ages and becomes a police detective.
In 1992, after serving a 10 year sentence for murder, Jack Deebs is released from prison. He is the creator of a successful comic book series called… Cool World, where a femme fatale called Holli Would lives… and soon Jack is being transported to and from Cool World too.
Holli, a “doodle” is desperate to leave Cool World, and is only able to leave is to a have sex with a human – or a “noid”. Frank has always rejected her advances, as sex between doodles and noids is illegal, but will Jack be able to resist?
Direction
Directed by Ralph Bakshi, this feels like I was in someone’s either sex fantasy or BAAAAD drug trip. At 97m it is WAY too long.
Cast/Characters
Brad Pitt in one of his earliest (and reportedly least liked) roles, plays Frank.
Gabriel Byrne, spotting a terrible American accent plays Jack.
Kim Basinger plays the voice, and later (after becoming real) the real life Holli.
Overall
I have no redeeming things to say about this. I’m not even doing a “breakdown”. The animation was bad, with frightening and sexualised images, (it is a cartoon not for kids?), There is sex between a cartoon and a human???
I don’t know who this was made for. The story is bad, the acting is okay, the narrative makes no sense, ideas are just abandoned half way through, there is no happy ending for anyone, the score is just irritating and plays over the dialogue and is headache inducing, the third act is just plain stupid
This is by far the worst movie I’ve watched since starting my reviews. This doesn’t even deserve any score, so it will my first…
