The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live image gives a look at the return of Pollyanna McIntosh as Jadis
Five years have gone by since the character of Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln, made his exit from the AMC series The Walking Dead in the fifth episode of season 9. A wounded Rick was flown away on a helicopter, accompanied by the character Jadis, played by Pollyanna McIntosh. The Walking Dead has since ended and McIntosh has appeared on the two-season companion series The Walking Dead: World Beyond. On February 25th, we’re finally going to find out what happened to Rick, as that’s when AMC will begin airing the limited series The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, a show that will be catching up with him and Michonne, played by Danai Gurira. McIntosh is also reprising the role of Jadis for this one, and Entertainment Weekly has unveiled an image of her back in character. You can check it out at the bottom of this article.
The Walking Dead wrapped up its eleven season run on AMC last year, and now we are in the era of spin-off follow-ups. The first season of The Walking Dead: Dead City, focusing on the Maggie and Negan characters, played out earlier this year. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon recently reached the end of its first season run (and will adding the Carol character into the mix for season 2). The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is the next in line.
Gurira co-created the mini-series and is also one of the writers on the show. Consisting of six episodes, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will present an “epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?“
Gurira is worked on the mini-series with Scott M. Gimple, Chief Content Officer of the Walking Dead Universe. Lincoln, Gurira, and McIntosh are joined in the cast by Lesley-Ann Brandt (Lucifer) as a character named Pearl Thorne, Terry O’Quinn (Lost) as Beale, and newcomer Matt Jeffries as Nat.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, McIntosh revealed that she knew Jadis would be back for a continuation of the Rick and Michonne story long before her character exited The Walking Dead alongside Rick. She said, “It was about five months before Jadis left The Walking Dead that I knew that she was going to carry on. So I’ve been looking forward excitedly to this leg of the journey for all that time. And then World Beyond was just an added beautiful bonus where I got to come in and play her then and bring another crazy haircut to the world — which was my stupid decision because then I had to do it again for this one. I was like, “Oh s—, we have to go back to Dumb and Dumber.” I did that because I wanted her to be like Joan of Arc. I wanted her to be on this mission that to her was essential and the right way to go. I wanted to make it clear in the story from World Beyond and now in The Ones Who Live that in her eyes what she’s doing is the right thing. … it was always going to be Rick’s story with Jadis and Michonne. Certainly, I knew it would be Jadis and Rick. And then of course I figured you’ve got to have Michonne in there. And because that hadn’t happened in World Beyond, I knew that we’d still have this coming. So it was always that. But it was a beautiful call from Scott in lockdown saying, “We’re doing that thing, but can you also do this other thing and come to World Beyond?” So it wasn’t a question for me when we wrapped World Beyond as to whether we’d be doing The Ones Who Live or not. It was always going to be the plan, because we want to see Rick, right? The question I get asked the most in my life for the last four and a half years is, “What have you done with Rick?”“
Jadis works with the Civic Republic and is a committed follower of the Civic Republic Military. To read more of what McIntosh had to say about the character, click over to the Entertainment Weekly interview.
