POLL: What’s Your Favorite Pixar Movie?

Chris

Of all the animation labels out there, none carries the prestige of Pixar. It’s a label that means something — with the studio balancing creativity, innovation, and pure storytelling skill, along with an absolute mastery of entertainment. For about twenty years, they had a storied, unmatched run, with all-time classics like the Toy Story trilogy, Finding NemoWall-EUp, and so many more.

Yet, it can’t be denied that the studio is in something of a slump. Sometime around the pandemic, their movies stopped connecting with audiences the way they used to. Some point the finger at the departure of Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter, who exited the company following allegations of sexual misconduct, later resurfacing at Skydance Animation. It was around this time that Pixar’s films took a bit of a pivot toward becoming somewhat more autobiographical in nature, often reflecting the experiences of their directors. Some say this led to their movies becoming more niche, but it also happened to coincide with the pandemic, and my theory is that many people simply got used to watching Pixar movies on streaming. While Inside Out 2 was their biggest hit ever, their original movies are having trouble finding an audience, with the poorly received Elio proving to be a true box office disaster.

Yet, some believe this weekend’s Hoppers is a step in the right direction, and it’s looking at a solid $40 million debut, even if that kind of opening is far removed from the numbers they once pushed. As such, their future slate is likely to be dominated by sequels. Even still, they have a huge legacy, and of the thirty movies they’ve produced so far, we want to know which is your favorite — so take the poll below!
