Nobody likes Keanu Reeves
This is definitely one way for Keanu Reeves to play against-type. The John Wick and Matrix star is very beloved online when people learned about the tragic things he’s dealt with and the humility he projects despite being a rich and famous movie star. He’s funny. He’s sweet. How can you not like him? Jonah Hill’s Outcome puts Reeves in a position where he’s the exact opposite. Apple TV has released the new trailer, which showcases Reeves on an apology tour to make amends with everyone he might’ve wronged.
There’s a lot of introspection from Keanu in the trailer, but it would be interesting to see some scenes of him being incredibly unlikable to really hammer home the nature of his character. Reeves has shown that he can play antagonistic people in films like The Gift and Neon Demon. Coupled with last year’s Good Fortune, I must say, it’s good to see him doing comedies.
What’s the Outcome?
The film follows “Reef Hawk (Reeves), a beloved Hollywood star who must dive into the depths of his hidden demons after he is extorted with a mysterious video that’s sure to shatter his image and end his career. With the support of his lifelong friends Kyle (Cameron Diaz) and Xander (Matt Bomer), along with his crisis lawyer Ira (Hill), Reef embarks on a soul-searching journey to make amends with anyone he could have possibly wronged in hopes of identifying the blackmailer.“
In addition to appearing in the movie, Hill also directed and co-wrote the script with Ezra Woods. This marks his third film as director, following 2018’s Mid90s and the 2022 documentary Stutz. It’s also his first time in front of the camera since 2023’s You People. During press day for Outcome, Hill teased that the film is “a metaphor for what we all go through living on social media. Social media has made us obsessed what people we don’t know think of us, instead of caring about what the people who know us best think of us.“
In addition to Reeves, Cameron Diaz, Matt Bomer, and Jonah Hill, the film also stars Martin Scorsese, Susan Lucci, Laverne Cox, David Spade, Atsuko Okatsuka, Roy Wood Jr., Kaia Gerber, and Ivy Wolk.
Outcome started shooting close to two years ago, but it’s been delayed again and again. Apple TV has finally set a release date for the film, which will be available on the streaming service on April 10.
