Balls Up trailer: Mark Wahlberg and Paul Walter Hauser are on the run in Brazil after their plans to market a new condom go awry
You read that headline correctly
The Farrelly brothers have explored unique concepts for comedies in their heyday. Me, Myself and Irene showed how a man with schizophrenia can have a complicated romance with a woman. Shallow Hal explored how a man can only see the inner beauty in a person as he dates someone whom he would otherwise not be attracted to. Stuck On You explored how one of two conjoined twins can break into show business.
Now, we have Balls Up from Peter Farrelly. The initial plot, as presented in the trailer, seemed to be how Paul Walter Hauser’s character invented a new kind of condom, and he and Mark Wahlberg hit the international stage to promote it. However, when things turn chaotic, the duo must now go on the run in Brazil and they encounter zany situations during their refuge.
The skinny on Balls Up
Wahlberg and Hauser are joined by a cast that includes Benjamin Bratt, Eva De Dominici, Daniela Melchior with Molly Shannon, Sacha Baron Cohen and Eric André. Peter Farrelly directs from a script by Deadpool scribes Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese.
The official synopsis reads,
“In this raunchy, over-the-top comedy, marketing executives Brad (Mark Wahlberg) and Elijah (Paul Walter Hauser) go ‘balls out’ and pitch a bold full‑coverage condom sponsorship with the World Cup. After their drunken celebration in Brazil sparks a global scandal, they must outrun furious fans, criminals, and power-hungry officials to salvage their careers and make it home alive.”
The producers on the film include the new owner of Paramount and Warner Bros., David Ellison, as well as Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Andrew Muscato, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. The movie is a co-production of Amazon MGM Studios and Skydance.
Balls Up hits Prime Video on April 15.
Also from Peter Farrelly
As this trailer releases, Peter Farrelly is currently at work filming I Play Rocky, which is a movie about the making of the classic Sylvester Stallone 1976 film, which catapulted him into super stardom and established a cultural icon. Farrelly directs from a script by Peter Gamble (Trenches). The film “tells the true story of an unknown actor with an unshakable belief that he wasn’t just meant to write Rocky — he was meant to be Rocky Balboa. Told no at every turn, Stallone bets everything on himself, holding the line on playing the lead against seemingly impossible odds. The result is the ultimate underdog story behind the ultimate underdog movie.“
