Rumor: Sadie Sink reportedly cast as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day
After months of speculation, a hot Hollywood rumor related to Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day could be coming true. According to The Hot Mic‘s Jeff Sneider, the same scooper who broke the news about casting for Sam Mendes’ Beatles biopics, Sadie Sink is playing the X-Men character Jean Grey in Destin Daniel Cretin’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Is Sadie Sink really playing Jean Grey?
Rumors about Sink’s character have circulated ever since she officially joined the Brand New Day cast in December. Now, I would still not take Sneider’s word as gospel, but with Disney and Marvel looking to go hard in the paint with X-Men characters as the next phase of the MCU, it would make sense to plant the seeds for Jean Grey early. Before fans started dream-casting Sink as Jean Grey, rumors of her playing an alternate version of Mary Jane Watson or a special agent alongside Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle were circulating. It did not take long for people to shout the name Jean Grey from the rooftops, based solely on Sink’s wild red hair.
Even after the first Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer dropped last week, we still know very little about the upcoming film. In the trailer, we see Tom Holland’s Peter Parker continuing to struggle with the aftermath of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which saw the character seemingly forgotten by the rest of the MCU. When his powers start to go haywire, Peter seeks help from Dr. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), who tells him his powers are changing and breaking down. A scene in the trailer suggests Peter’s transformation into Man-Spider is part of the film, but we’ll need more details before we can confirm that.
Seeing is believing
What do you think about Sadie Sink possibly playing Jean Grey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? We know that Sink signed with Marvel for multiple films, and it makes sense that the studio would want to start introducing X-Men characters sooner rather than later. Jean Grey, though? Considering she’s a founding member of the X-Men, she would be one of the first mutants to pop up in the MCU. Then again, we’ve no idea what Marvel’s strategy is for the next generation of the X-Men. How does Jean Grey fit into Peter’s story? Why is she slumming it in the Big Apple? Is she spying on Peter? Does she suspect he’s a mutant? Let the theory-crafting begin!
