Coming off his Oscar win, soon you’ll be able to see Michael B. Jordan as you’ve never seen him before…as an animated woodland creature. Netflix has just released the trailer for Swapped. You’ve seen various body-swap films be in the past, now here’s one for an animated film featuring no one but wilderness creatures. Jordan and Juno Temple are the fateful characters who eventually end up in each other’s bodies. They are joined in the cast by Tracy Morgan, Cedric the Entertainer, Justina Machado, Ambika Mod and Lolly Adefope.
Summertime Switch
The official logline from Netflix reads,
“A buddy comedy about a small woodland creature (voiced by Academy Award-winning Michael B. Jordan) and a majestic bird (voiced by Juno Temple) — natural sworn enemies of The Valley — who suddenly swap bodies and must team up (while walking in each other’s feathers and fur) to survive the wildest adventure of their lives.”
Swapped is directed by Nathan Greno (Tangled) from a story scripted by John Whittington (The Lego Batman Movie), along with writing partners Christian Magalhães and Robert Snow (DuckTales, WondLa). The screenplay comes from a story by John Whittington, Adam Karp, Christian Magalhaes, Robert Snow and Nathan Greno. John Lasseter, Paramount-Skydance-Warner Bros.-Discovery CEO David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Mary Ellen Bauder Andrews will be serving as producers.
A Swap with a Twist
Greno told Netflix Tudum, “Swapped is a body swap movie unlike anything audiences have seen before. In this world, the creatures of the valley exist on a spectrum between plant and animal, creating a wild ecosystem. At the center of the film is the smallest creature in the valley, voiced by Michael B. Jordan, who suddenly finds himself swapped into a completely different body and thrust into a massive, unpredictable world that turns his entire life upside down and forces him to experience life from a completely different perspective.”
He continues to say, “Swapped is an unpredictable, emotional ride — full of humor, spectacle, and heart. We drew from live-action nature documentaries, exploring the complexity of a wild ecosystem to capture something that feels vibrant and deeply human.” He also says that Jordan and Temple give “warmth and authenticity” to the film. “Every moment between them feels alive — funny one second, deeply moving the next. Their chemistry lifts the story and gives Swapped its wings.”
Swapped starts streaming on May 1.
