DISTANT LANDS Official Teaser Trailer
LOVE, DEATH + ROBOTS | Official Trailer

Jamie Bell and Richard Gadd are inseperably toxic in the trailer for the Baby Reindeer creator’s next HBO & BBC drama series Half Man

Everyone’s had at least one friend or sibling throughout their lives who, despite being a harbinger of chaos, is impossible to quit. Most people won’t understand the connection, but you do. You both do. The dynamic doesn’t need to make sense, or even be the best thing for either of you, but there’s something that compels you to battle through thick and thin, emerging on the other side as one. In the trailer for Richard Gadd’s Half Man, Niall (Jamie Bell) and Ruben (Richard Gadd) are estranged brothers whose personal history is a hurricane of emotions, run-ins with the law, and brushes with death. Many know Richard Gadd as the creator of the Baby Reindeer mini series, an intense and emotional journey that was the talk of every water cooler for weeks. Gadd is back, and he’s not pulling any punches with Half Man.

Where can you watch Half Man?

The six-episode series is set to premiere April 23 on HBO and HBO Max and April 24 on BBC iPlayer in the U.K., with over-the-air broadcasts on the BBC later that week. Half Man is created, written, and executive produced by Gadd. Sophie Gardiner and Anna O’Malley executive produce, alongside Gaynor Holmes for the BBC and Gavin Smith for BBC Scotland. Alexandra Brodski and Eshref Reybrouck direct the series.

What’s Half Man about?

Here’s the official synopsis for Half Man, courtesy of HBO:

“When Niall’s estranged ‘brother’ Ruben shows up at his wedding, it leads to an explosion of violence that catapults us back through their lives. Spanning almost forty years from the 1980s to the present day, this ambitious series will cover the highs and lows of the brothers’ relationship, from them meeting as teenagers to their falling out as adults — with all the good, bad, terrible, funny, angry, and challenging moments along the way. It will capture the wild energy of a changing city — a changing world, even — and try to get to the bottom of the difficult question… What does it mean to be a man?”

I’ll need to be in a certain type of mood to watch Half Man, but I’m looking forward to it. The connection between Niall and Ruben is undeniably intense, and this is only a trailer. I expect powerhouse performances from both Bell and Gadd as the duo explores the fragility of male relationships, the depths of forgiveness, and, in some cases, how blood is thicker than water.
